At Gecko our goal is a pretty simple one: help you solve as many problems as we can. Over a year ago, Covid was the catalyst in an unprecedented shift from in-person to virtual-based events. Since then the message we've received from you has been clear: Gecko is great at helping you manage the event, but you'd like assistance in hosting your events, too.

To that end, we're proud to announce our brand new event streaming functionality, allowing students to experience your virtual events, webinars, interviews and Q&A's directly from their personalised RSVP pages:

The event streaming functionality has been designed to be compatible with any software that allows you to RTMP (Real-Time Messaging Protocol) your stream to Gecko.

💡 How does it work?

To keep things as simple as possible, the setup is largely the same:

  1. Create and manage your event registration on Gecko.

  2. Create your virtual meeting room on Zoom (or another platform).

  3. Generate your streaming credentials from Gecko.

  4. Customise your Zoom custom live stream/output to stream directly to Gecko.

  5. Go live!

The result? Students will now be able to watch your live-stream of your Zoom call from the comfort of their personalised RSVP page.

❤️ How will this benefit me?

In many, many ways. But here are a few to start:

  • Your event hosts don't need to learn any new systems. They log into the same place they did before and present their sessions as they always have.

  • Students no longer have to navigate away from their RSVP page to view your stream. This means no gated streams, no having to download software or having to update devices to log in.

  • Attendance tracking is done solely through Gecko - saving you time and energy

🔎 Which streaming platforms is this compatible with?

As noted earlier, the event streaming functionality has been designed to be compatible with any software that allows you to RTMP (Real-Time Messaging Protocol) your stream to Gecko. Here are just some examples:

  • Zoom

  • Wirecast

  • GoToWebinar

  • OBS (Open Broadcaster Software)

  • ecamm live

💰 OK, how much does it cost?

If you're an existing client with Visit this functionality is absolutely free of charge and part of our ongoing mission to iterate and improve upon the functionality you enjoy each and every day.

The basics covered, let's take a look at how to get set up.

Getting started

The setup differs slightly depending on the type of event you're looking to run:

  • Create your event as normal.

  • Navigate to the Location tab and select Virtual event.

  • Opt to run a Hosted event through Gecko.

  • Click Enable Stream Connection.

  • On Zoom, click More > Live on Custom Live Streaming Service.

  • On the webpage that loads, paste your Stream URL into the Streaming URL field, your Stream Key into the Streaming key field and, in Zoom's Live streaming page URL, enter any valid URL (note: this field is required but don't worry! It doesn't do anything. Feel free to put https://www.geckoengage.com/).

  • Click Go Live!

  • Your Zoom event will now be streaming directly to your Gecko event.

Single/Multiple Session Event

Create your event as normal.

  • Navigate to the Location tab and select Virtual event.

  • Opt to run a Hosted event through Gecko.

  • Once your first session is created, the Event Streams tab will appear:

  • On Zoom, click More > Live on Custom Live Streaming Service.

  • On the webpage that loads, paste your Stream URL into the Streaming URL field, your Stream Key into the Streaming key field and, in Zoom's Live streaming page URL, enter any valid URL (note: this field is required but don't worry! It doesn't do anything. Feel free to put https://www.geckoengage.com/).

  • Click Go Live!

  • Your Zoom event will now be streaming directly to your Gecko session/session time.
