Gecko allows you to build messages that dynamically pull through information from your account, as the animation below shows:

The great news is that this is easy to achieve using Template Tags.

Users of the Drag & Drop email builder can quickly add tags by typing the @ symbol in any Text content block, whilst Basic Template users can scroll to the bottom of their template and use the Input Template Tag builder.

It is important to note that some template tags will only work depending on where in Gecko you send your message from. For more information, click here.

Overview of template tags

Gecko supports a huge range of template tags for use in your messages. Below is a selection of some of our favourite tags:

Contact [these will display when sent from anywhere in Gecko]:

  • {{contact.full_name}} - pulls through the first and/ or last name of the contact.

  • {{contact.full_name.first_name}} - pulls through the first name of the contact.

  • {{contact.email}} - pulls through the email address of the contact.

  • {{contact.events_page}} - pulls through the student's events page which links to all upcoming event RSVP pages and all previously attended events.

  • {{contact.bookings}} - pulls through a text summary of all of the student's upcoming events in the format: Event Title, Session Title, Session Date/Time, Attendee Status.

  • {{contact.last_called}} - pulls through the date/ time of the last GeckoTalk call made to this contact.

  • {{contact.portal_url}} - pulls through the link to the contacts' data management portal. This feature is available to users with the GeckoProtect package.

  • {{contact.unsubscribe}} - pulls through the link to unsubscribe users from future

  • {{contact.fieldX}} - pulls through any information saved to the contact level. Navigate to Settings > Contact Fields and replace fieldX with the Template Tag value of your desired field.

Forms [these will only display if sent via a form workflow]:

  • {{form.name}} - pulls through the public name of the completed form.

  • {{form.internal_name}} - pulls through the internal name of the completed form.

  • {{form.code}} - pulls through the internal ID code for the completed form.

Responses [these will only display when sent via a form workflow]:

  • {{response.first_field}} - pulls the primary field into your message. By default, this is the Full Name field.

  • {{response.second_field}} - pulls the secondary field into your message. By default, this is the Email field.

  • {{response.email}} - pulls the contact's email into your message.

  • {{response.id}} - pulls through the unique response ID for the contacts form submission (i.e. "Thanks for filling in our form. Your unique reference is {{response.id}}.")

  • {{response.link}} - pulls through a URL to the form response on Gecko.

  • {{response.referer}} - pulls through the referrer URL for the form submission (i.e. https://app.geckoform.com/public/

  • {{response.received_at}} - pulls through the date/ time the response was submitted at.

  • {{response.fieldX}} - pulls through the response to any field on your form. Substitute fieldX for your field's ID. This can be found by editing the desired field on your form and taking note of the Template Tag value. To illustrate with an example, to pull through the response to the field in the image below, my template tag would read {{response.field21609}}.

Events [these will only display when sent from an event]:

  • {{event.title}} - pulls through the title of the event or event & session(s) titles and times. (i.e. Gecko Open Day - Welcome Talk 10th June 10:00 - 11:00)

  • {{event.description}} - pulls through the event description of your event. 

  • {{event.start_date}} - pulls through the start date and/or time of the event or/ session.

  • {{event.end_date}} - pulls through the end date and/or time of the event or/ session.

  • {{event.closing_date}} - pulls through the closing date and/or time of the event or/ session.

  • {{event.location}} - pulls through the location of the event or session.

  • {{event.webinar_url}} - pulls through the webinar of the event or session

  • {{event.country}} - pulls through the country of the event.

  • {{event.rsvp_link}} - pulls through the RSVP page for the event. 

  • {{event.ical_link}} - pulls through a link for contacts to add your event to their calendar.

  • {{event.passbook_link}} - pulls through a link for contacts to add this event to their Apple wallet.

  • {{event.qr_code}} - pulls through a unique QR ticket for the contact. 

  • {{event.event_title}} - pulls through the title of the top-level event only. 

  • {{event.session_title}} - pulls through the session title which invoked the workflow.

  • {{event.guests}} - pulls through the number of guests for the contract.

  • {{event.webinar_url}} - pulls through the link to your virtual event.

  • {{event.webinar_description}} - pulls through the event description for your virtual event.

  • {{event.session_title}} - pulls through the title of the session if the workflow condition references the session. More information here.

  • {{event.session_webinar_url}} - pulls through the session virtual webinar link if the workflow condition references the session. More information here.

Assigned User [these will only display when sent via a form workflow]:
note: all Gecko agent information in this section refers to the associated values in My Settings. 

  • {{assigned.full_name}} - pulls through the first and/ or last name of the Gecko agent assigned to the contact. 

  • {{assigned.email}} - pulls through the email of the Gecko agent assigned to the contact.

  • {{assigned.telephone}} - pulls through the specified telephone number of the Gecko agent assigned to the contact. 

  • {{assigned.position}} - pulls through the specified role/ position of the agent assigned to the contact.

  • {{assigned.group_name}} - pulls through the user group the Gecko agent belongs to.

Captured User [these will display when sent from anywhere]:
note: all Gecko agent information in this section refers to the associated values in My Settings. 

  • {{captured.email}} - pulls through the email of the Gecko agent who captured this contact using the Capture app.

  • {{captured.telephone}} - pulls through the telephone number of the Gecko agent who captured this contact using the Capture app.

  • {{captured.position}} - pulls through the role/ position of the Gecko agent who captured this contact using the Capture app.

  • {{captured.group_name}} - pulls through the user group the Gecko agent belongs to.

Sender [will display when sent from anywhere in Gecko]:

  • {{sender.full_name}} - pulls through the name of the Verified Sender used to send this email.

  • {{sender.email}} - pulls through the email address of the Verified Sender used to send this email.

  • {{sender.telephone}} - pulls through the VoIP number used to call the contact being messaged. This option will only pull through when sending an email from a GeckoTalk campaign.

Campaign [will display when sent from anywhere in Gecko]:

  • {{campaign.title}} - pulls through the name of your GeckoTalk campaign.

  • {{campaign.description}} - pulls through the description of your GeckoTalk campaign.

  • {{campaign.start}} - pulls through the start date/ time of your GeckoTalk campaign.

  • {{campaign.end}} - pulls through the end date/ time of your GeckoTalk campaign.

Calls [will display when sent from anywhere in Gecko]:

  • {{call.started}} - pulls through the date/ start time of the most recent GeckoTalk call with this contact.

  • {{call.ended}} - pulls through the date/ end time of the most recent GeckoTalk call.

  • {{call.completed}} - pulls through the date/ completed time of the most recent GeckoTalk call (i.e. the time at which the Gecko call agent pressed the Complete Call button).

  • {{user.full_name}} - pulls through the full name of the call agent making the call. 

Outcomes:

  • {{outcome.name}} - pulls through the name of the call outcome used in the most recent call with this contact.
