This article will give you the rundown of best practices for using the Video Component in your Gecko Widget.

Choosing the Video Component

The Video Component will allow you to share embedded videos with students. If the student selects the Video Component from your widget, a pop-up containing the video will appear on the student's webpage letting them view the media then and there. This is compatible with YouTube, Vimeo, Wistia, and other major video hosting sites that let you share embedded videos.

Getting started

To start using the Video Component, click the video card in the Build The Widget area of your widget.

We're just a few fields away from being done. Be sure to update the following required fields:

  • Widget Component Label - What would you like this component to be called? Students will see this name on the widget menu when hovering their mouse over the Widget Icon:

  • Video Embed Code - Paste your video embed code in this field. Pasting in the URL to the video will not work. Your embed code can typically be found in the 'Share' section of your video's hosting page. Compatible with YouTube, Vimeo, Wistia, and more.

  • Widget Icon - How would you like your component icon to look?

Remember, you can test your component once you've added it to your widget! Just click the Real-time practice widget in the bottom right-hand corner of the page to see your video in action.
